Privacy Policy
Writa is a writing app made by Kitcart Technology ("we", "us"). This policy explains what happens to your information when you use Writa on iPhone, iPad, Mac or Android.
The short version: what you write stays on your devices and, if you turn on sync, in your own iCloud or Google Drive account. We don't run servers, we don't have accounts, and we never see your writing. The free version shows ads from Google AdMob, and Google collects some device information to show them. Writa Pro removes the ads.
Your writing
Your sheets, groups, images and settings are stored on your device. We never receive them.
- iCloud sync (iPhone, iPad and Mac only). If you turn on "Sync library with iCloud", your library is stored in Writa's folder in your own iCloud Drive so your Apple devices stay in sync. Apple handles this under Apple's Privacy Policy. We have no access to your iCloud account or its contents. You can turn sync off at any time in Writa's Settings.
- Google Drive sync (Android only). If you connect your Google account, Writa stores your library in a private app folder in your own Google Drive, so your Android devices stay in sync. Writa asks only for access to that folder (the "See, create, and delete its own configuration data in your Google Drive" permission). It can't see any of your other Drive files, and the folder doesn't appear in your Drive file list. Writa uses your Google account only to sync your library. It shows the account's email address in Settings so you know which account is syncing, and keeps it only on your device. It doesn't access your contacts or anything else, and nothing is sent to us. Google stores the files under the Google Privacy Policy. You can disconnect at any time in Writa's Settings.
- Photos and files. When you add an image, Writa asks for permission to access your photo library or opens a file picker. Only the images you choose are copied into your Writa library. Writa never reads the rest of your photos.
- Exporting and sharing. When you export or share a sheet, the file goes only where you send it, such as Files, Mail or another app.
- Images from the web. If a sheet links to an image on the internet, Writa downloads it when you export, so it can be embedded in the file. Like any web request, this tells the server hosting the image your IP address.
Ads (free version)
The free version of Writa on iPhone, iPad and Android shows a small banner ad from Google AdMob in the sheet list. There are no ads in the editor, and none on Mac.
To show, measure and limit ads, and to prevent fraud, the Google Mobile Ads SDK collects information such as:
- device identifiers, such as the Android advertising ID or an app-specific identifier
- IP address, which can indicate your approximate location
- device and app information, such as model, operating system and app version
- how you interact with ads, such as views and taps
- diagnostic data about ad performance
Google processes this information under the Google Privacy Policy. How Google uses information from apps that use its services explains this in more detail.
- Consent. If you're in the European Economic Area, the UK, Switzerland, or another region where the law requires it, Writa shows Google's consent form before any ad is requested. You can change your choice at any time in Settings → Privacy → Ad Privacy Choices.
- Tracking on Apple devices. Writa doesn't ask for permission to track you, so AdMob can't use Apple's advertising identifier (IDFA).
- Android advertising ID. You can reset or delete it in your phone's settings, under Privacy → Ads, or Google → Ads on some phones.
Writa Pro subscribers don't see ads, and Writa doesn't request ads for them.
Purchases (Writa Pro)
Writa Pro is a yearly subscription sold through the Apple App Store or Google Play. Apple or Google processes your payment, and we never see your payment details or your name.
Writa receives only a confirmation that your subscription is active. It keeps that on your device to know whether to show ads, and checks with the store when the app opens. You can manage or cancel the subscription in your App Store or Google Play account settings.
What we don't do
- We don't run servers that receive your data.
- We don't require an account or ask for your name, email or phone number.
- We don't use analytics or crash-reporting tools.
- We don't sell your personal information.
Google API Services
Writa's use and transfer of information received from Google APIs adheres to the Google API Services User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements. Writa uses Google Drive access only to store and sync your own library, never for advertising, and no person at Writa reads your Drive data.
Children
Writa isn't directed at children under 13, and we don't knowingly collect personal information from children.
Your rights
Because your writing stays on your devices and in your own iCloud or Google Drive, you control it directly. Deleting Writa removes its data from that device. You can delete Writa's folder from iCloud Drive in your device settings. To delete the synced copy in Google Drive, open Google Drive on the web, go to Settings → Manage apps → Writa → Options → Delete hidden app data. To revoke Writa's access to your Google account, tap Disconnect in Writa's Settings or visit myaccount.google.com/permissions.
For information Google collects for ads, you can use the ad privacy choices described above, or contact Google through the links in its privacy policy. Depending on where you live, for example under the GDPR in Europe or state privacy laws in the US such as California's, you may have the right to access or delete personal information about you and to object to its processing. We hold no personal information about you, but we're happy to help with any request. Just contact us.
Changes to this policy
If we change this policy, we'll update this page and the effective date above. If a change significantly affects how your information is handled, we'll also tell you in the app.
